Church Planting Summit a Success

On Thursday, November 19, 68 church planters and church multiplication leaders gathered in Salt Lake City for the second semi-annual Utah Church Multiplication Summit. The meeting was characterized by a strong feeling of God’s leading and presence, and tremendous excitement over a sense of divine synergy.

Summit attendees represented 15 different denominations and movements that have an interest in planting churches in Utah. Utah Advance was a co-sponsor and leading impetus for the event.

The morning session featured a plenary discussion aimed at discerning what God is doing in Utah. People shared where they see God’s hand at work, what strategies are working, and where their challenges lie. This discussion was followed by an intensive time of prayer.

After lunch, the larger group divided into three different tracks or “learning communities.” One track focused on issues facing church planters. The second track was for churches that plant other churches and multiply new sites. The third track was for regional and movement leaders dealing with larger strategies.

Everyone was very encouraged by seeing how God is at work, making new relationships, and learning from what others are doing. We’re planning the next Summit to take place in May 2010.
