What’s God Up to in Utah?

Summit-Logo

Church planters, team members and spouses are all invited to the upcoming Church Planter’s Summit to explore our theme: What’s God Up To?    Thursday, Oct 3 from 8am-3pm @ K2 The Church.

“He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.”      Colossians 1:28-29

Church planters live this Scripture on a daily basis, with work, family, discipleship, preaching, caring, shepherding, bridging cultural gaps, shoestring budgets, raising support, and from time to time sleeping.  This event is designed to equip and encourage planters in this strenuous effort.

Inspiring, interactive sessions will build your faith, knowledge, and network.  Thursday, Oct 3 from 8am-3pm @ K2 The Church.  Continental breakfast & hangout lunch provided.  193 West 2100 South.  Salt Lake City, UT.  $20 per participant.

RSVP to lovingutahnetwork@gmail.com

The Summit features stimulating discussions on:

Prayer Meetings for Church Planting

On Thursday, April 11 at noon, Loving Utah (a church planting network I work with) will host prayer meetings throughout Utah.  The goal is an hour of concentrated prayer for God’s work in Utah, especially for church planting.  We plan to celebrate new church planting efforts, pray for more people to accept the good news of God’s grace, for the strength of all the churches, and for laborers for this harvest field.

You don’t have to be a church planter or pastor to join us at one of the following venues:

Layton: Alpine Church — Hosts: Tom Koehler & myself.  Address: 254 West 2675 North.  RSVP to: ross@alpinechurch.org or tom@alpinechurch.org.

An Invitation to Church Planters

Gathering to Catalyze Church Planting in Utah’s Unique Setting

On February 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., we are co-sponsoring an event for church planters and spouses.  Paul and Jan Mitton will minister to us on the subject of Spiritual Warfare in Church Planting.  Paul is Executive Minister for Converge Rocky Mountain.  He and Jan bring a balanced approach along with valuable experience to encourage you in the spiritual battle you face as a church planting family.  The focus of this gathering is not just teaching, but ministry to planters and their families.  We invite you to stay afterwards for individual prayer.

Child care is provided.

At K-2 the Church: 193 W. 2100 S., Salt Lake City

RSVP to me at utahadvance@gmail.com, not later than Monday, February 20.  Specify your name(s) and any children (with ages) who will need child care.

Registration: $5 per person, includes lunch.  Payable at the door.

Please forward this notice to anyone who might be interested.

Church Planting Insights in LDS Culture

Last fall I mentioned the Transitions curriculum, an excellent new resource to help former Latter-day Saints navigate the journey into a new faith and church life after leaving Mormonism.  I had the privilege of being involved in this fine program.

As part of their research into the post-Mormon journey, the producers of Transitions also explored the implications of that journey applied to planting churches in the LDS cultural sphere.  Check out these insights here: Notes for Church Planters.
